
Johan Pretorius Grew up in Alberton, Gauteng, where he matriculated through Hoërskool Alberton. He commenced his working career in the freight forwarding and clearing industry in 1992 as a courier driver, where he did several courses to further his knowledge in International Freight and Transport, such as the UNISA certificate in International Freight Management and Administration for Importers and Exporters, and he built up a solid foundation of knowledge in International Transport and Maritime matters, through many years of diligent work and study. He relocated to Cape Town in 1999 to fulfill the position of acting branch manager for a prominent Corporate South African Clearing and Forwarding Company. After taking his leave of the corporate world in 2001, he started his first of several successful companies in 2001, which are all still active and successful. Relishing in working independently and unsupervised, he completed his BComm degree in Business Management through UNISA. He also went on the complete the LLB degree through UNISA, and after completing articles and successfully completing the gruelling one year correspondence PLT course through the Law Society of South Africa, he founded Johan Pretorius Attorneys, a legal firm with the aim of creating a “One-Stop Shop” for all their clients – being able to cater to all and every legal requirement they may have. Johan has a widespread interest and passion for the law, with knowledge and experience in the varied fields of Family Law, Commercial Law, International Transport Law and Criminal Law and is actively involved in litigation in all the fields. He is further an attorney admitted with right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa, and subsequently does his own High Court appearances. He is continuously studying to further his legal knowledge, and believes that through knowledge, we get to know ourselves. As an avid sportsman, he was always involved in rugby, karate, Aikido, SCUBA diving, spearfishing and sport shooting. He holds instructor qualifications in both the martial arts and in SCUBA diving and was Chairman of Western Province Spearfishing for three years, and he still serves on the provincial committee as treasurer.

Riana Coetzer Grew up in the Strand, where she attended Hendrik Louw Primary School and later Strand High School. Riana matriculated in 1989 and went on to further her studies at Stellenbosch University, where, during 1990 – 1996, she obtained a BA (law), LLB, LLM (Labour law) degree. Later on she also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in taxation, from Stellenbosch University and a Post Graduate Certificate in construction contracts, from the University of Pretoria. Through her career, Riana has been employed by ABSA Trust, SARS, as well as Stellenbosch University, as a Legal Advisor. She also held the position of Acting Head: Legal Services, for three years, at Stellenbosch University. It is during her 13 years’ of employment at Stellenbosch University, that she realized she would rather be a practicing attorney and therefore, in 2015, opened her own practice, specializing in family law, in the Helderberg area. Her practice was also actively involved with Letz Kick It, a NPO focused on creating and providing innovative and customized programs, aimed at empowering vulnerable communities with education and awareness, related to various social issues. During this time, Riana also became one of the directors of a successful information technology infrastructure company, specializing in fibre optics for gated communities, and decided to close her practice, in order to provide her full attention to this company. She joined Johan Pretorius Attorneys as an Associate during 2019. Riana’s field of expertise includes family law (she is currently studying towards a Masters Degree in Family Law at Unisa) and commercial law. Riana is married to Eddie. They met on the 24th of June 1995, the day that the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup for the first time and have been together ever since. Riana is also a mom to two Labrador girls, Jessie and Klara and loves travelling, sport shooting, watching rugby, cricket, golf and formula one racing, as well as having a braai.
